Watch Out There Is Going To Be A Pyro Rush On Thursday

Hot off the presses is the news that The Pyro will be getting a couple of new weapons and 35 new achievements on Thursday. One of the new weapons that have been announced is called the Axtinguisher.

axtinguisher

Yeah does that not look like the coolest weapon. The interesting thing about this is that it does half damage unless the target is on fire, then it is an automatic critical.

Oh and one last thing. The new “Meet The Sniper” video is coming out tomorrow. I will post the video when it is released so check back tomorrow.

Boom Blox: Bombs in sales

This is really unfortunate  because this is one of the best games that I have played for the Wii. I would definitely recommend this game to anyone. It is really fun and has some of the best replay value to be found in a game. anyway check out the full post that was made over at Joystiq for the full details

Guitar Hero: Metallica Announced

Photobucket

For those of you who have felt a lack of Metallica in your Guitar Hero diet, hunger no more! Activision has just announced that they will be making a game for the popular hard rock band.

Much the same as Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, I imagine that the game will focus on the band’s rise to fame and history.

Activision says that the game will release in Fiscal 2009(what the hell is “Fiscal” anyways? Dont these people know the names of the months?)

Heres for finally getting to rock out to “Fade to Black” sometime next year!

Massively Multiplayer Online Games: Who Needs a Life Anyway?

Now I know Kerbyninja just did a post on the Age of Conan Hyborian Adventures but I have to weigh in on this subject. This is coming from somebody who has played MMO’s and I really feel that I have gotten since for what these games are all about. But there just isn’t anything novel about going out and killing 20 baby spiders, coming back and talking to the exact same person, who then tells you to go back out and kill 20 adult spiders. It’s just lather, rinse, repeat. The same thing over and over, but with slightly different monsters.

I really cannot see what is so exciting about that and why people will let these games dominate their entire lives. Honestly, I think that MMO’s are the scourge of the Internet. Yeah, I said it and if you couldn’t tell by the title of the post that I was going to say something along these lines then you need to get off of your MMO and read a book so that you can understand printed text. Okay, So now that I’ve had a little bit of time to blow off some steam. I’m going to put together a short list of what I hate about MMO’s.

The Cybermage’s Top 5 Reasons MMO’s Suck

1. The gameplay is repetitive.

2. There is absolutely no skill in playing these games. (A two-year-old playing with a mouse could play these games.) There is absolutely no skill involved.

3. This one kills me. Not only do you have to buy a $50 game, but in order to play the game. You have to continue in to pay anywhere from $10-$20 a month. It is completely ridiculous ( Yes before anybody mentions it. I know Guild wars is free to play.)

4. In order to level up and get a decent character . You have to log about 48-60 hours. I like long games, and I love RPG’s so I don’t mind spending the time, but when you combine it with the other three points mentioned above, this makes me want to bash my brains out. (Why pay for self inflected torture.)

5. MMO’s make you socially inept. You can’t talk to people unless it is through a monitor, and you can’t hold a sensible conversation about anything but your MMO.

My bottom line really is that if you think MMO’s are the greatest thing since the invention of the internet, you really need to get out and get yourself a life.

Age of Conan Hyborian Adventures - 6 hours later and I’ve still got my head! Good sign!

Yesterday I got the chance to play the much anticipated MMO Age of Conan (also known as AOC) and I’ve got to say that while I’ve found some minor annoyances I’m very impressed by the game.

I’ve got a little under 6 hours of game play under my belt right now and my Cimmerian Barbarian is already 14th level with some fairly good equipment, that right there tells you that it takes very little time to level up.

Now before I go any farther I should tell you that I am a devout fan of the Conan universe and I’ve read most of the original books and comics, so keep that in mind as you read on.

Where to start??? well I guess that I should start at the beginning……the very beginning.

The Installation: Well you cant get much closer to the beginning that the installation can you? Fasten your seat belts people because its gonna be a long ride! While most games these days can be fit onto one DVD, this one cannot. This game is so huge that it requires 2 high density DVD’s and a powerful compression because this game is a whopping 25 gigs! Dont worry you read it right! 25 GIGS! After what seemed an hour of installation and three disk swaps later the game is finally ready to launch! (Please note that I said launch not play)

Are you jumping up and down in your seat, saying under your breath “its about DAMN time”? well save your breath and energy because your going to have to wait for the program to download and install a 600 mb patch for about 30 min. Patience my friends, because if you did everything right in this step then the game should be ready to play.

OK! the game is started! Take a moment to pat your self on the back before you continue on.

Character Creation: After you login you are presented with the character select menu, here you see a list of characters you have created already or if you are just starting out, your character roster should be empty. Select a character slot and the server you want him to live in then go! Please note that there are three different kinds of servers PVE, PVP, PVP-RP

  • From what I’ve read PVE servers are safer for newer players, I really dont know what that means but I’m thinking that it means there are less PVP areas so you dont get slaughtered by other thrill seeking players.

  • PVP servers(thats what I’m playing in) give looser rules about PVP combat and that means that there are more PVP areas. So take my word for it and  watch your back. (I’m speaking from experiance)

  • PVP-RP servers offer(in theory) a more tame enviroment so as to make it easier to role play.

In-Game Activity: The moment your character washes up on the shore you really need to just take a moment to look around take in the sights. oh and of course fight off the barrage of tutorials. The games most shining achevement is without a doubt the combat system, and while the combat system has a bit of a learning curve, it keeps things interesting and fun. Another one of the interesting features is the single player aspect of the game, the beach you first land on is all single player and most of the storyline is told at night. so during the day you can travel around the land with all your friends but at night it almost seems like you totally disconnect from the internet.

I know that what I’ve already wrote sounds like a lot but in reality I’ve just barely scratched the surface.

The game may be a long wait to even install but if your a MMO fan or even just a Conan fan then you should really give this game a try.

Nintendo being sued for $21 Million over patent infringment

Image from Distructoid

In an interesting turn of events, our wiimote wielding friends over at Nintendo are being sued for $21 million, you would think that this is something about the the wiimote but its not, it is instead about the Gamecube controller and its brethren the Wavebird and the Wii classic controller.

From what I’ve been able to gather Nintendo is pretty cool about the chunk of change they are forking out, so it should go down fairly smooth.

People are also speculating that this lawsuit may be the reason that the Wavebird was taken off the shelves, so maybe after this all settles down Nintendo will start making them again?

Who knows for sure, but until then check out what other people are saying

Nintendo Billed $21 Million For Patent Infringement [Law] - A federal jury has ordered Nintendo to pay Anascape $21 million for infringing on patents, and almost ironically, all of this has nothing to do with the Wiimote. Instead, their violations were for the GameCube, WaveBird and Wii Classic …

Update: Nintendo ordered to pay Anascape $$$ - The two year long Anascape patent infringement suit has finally been settled. Nintendo has been ordered to pay Anascape $21 million to cover their “patent losses”. A snippet of the official statement below… The jury found that Nintendo …

Nintendo ordered to pay $21 million to patent troll - Remember Anascape Ltd, the little “gaming company” which sued Microsoft and Nintendo back in 2006 for controller patent infringement? Well, it’s payday to the tune of $21 million after a jury found Nintendo’s Wii Classic, WaveBird, …

Nintendo Loses $21 Million In Controller Patent Case - Nintendo has been ordered to pay $21 million to Anascape for patent infringement. 12 patents were under dispute, all based on the force feedback properties of the Gamecube pad. MS had already settled for an undisclosed sum.
