If you're trying to run this on a new (or just clean) machine, make sure that HL2 is not only INSTALLED, but has been RUN at least once. Steam doesn't move the game files to their final location until you actually run the game for the first time. You don't need to start a game or anything, you can even just quit at the main menu immediately.

If you haven't run HL2 and you try to run the map pack, some map elements will be missing, resulting the the game being unbeatable.

So, you don't like MMO's. That's fine, but don't group them all into one. I play around 10 different MMO's, or at least I have that many installed on my machine, I play about two at a time at any given time. And not one of them do I pay monthly for. In fact, the only one I even paid for was Guild wars, and that was one time only ;). The rest are totally free to play MMO's. As far as I know WoW is the only pay to play MMO. I could be wrong, but it's the only one that I know of, and I don't even, nor have I ever played it, because like you, I don't believe in paying more than once for any game.
Also, I'm a very outgoing person, I can talk to anyone anywhere... so obviously playing MMO's hasn't affected my social skills.
I think maybe you should have done some more adequate research before you type this one out, bud.

Thanks Cybermage for leaving Age of Conan exempt from the MMO stereo type as it is a very different gaming experience from that found in other MMO's

I have just come across a video about the type of thing that the post is on.
Check it out @http://link.brightcove.com/services/link/bcpid1551055233/bclid1551048226/bctid1553183640

By the way: I knew that my opinion would ruffle some feathers, but hay my opinion is just that, it is mine. I have played a wide verity of MMO's there is just nothing in that industry that has kept my attention. Although Age of Conan might do that, I haven't played that one yet. But the single player element looks cool.

From the page:
“1. The gameplay is repetitive.”

Fair enough, it is sometimes. Depends what you choose to do.

“2. There is absolutely no skill in playing these games. (A two-year-old playing with a mouse could play these games.) There is absolutely no skill involved.”

Not true. The author has obviously never competed in the arena or battlegrounds of World of Warcraft or any other mmorpg in PVP. Besides that, there are plenty of challenges in most end-game environments, PvE or PvP.

“3. This one kills me. Not only do you have to buy a $50 game, but in order to play the game. You have to continue in to pay anywhere from $10-$20 a month. It is completely ridiculous ( Yes before anybody mentions it. I know Guild wars is free to play.)”

It’s worth what you want to pay. Don’t want to pay, don’t play. Or choose one that’s free. $10-20 a month isn’t much.

“4. In order to level up and get a decent character . You have to log about 48-60 hours. I like long games, and I love RPG’s so I don’t mind spending the time, but when you combine it with the other three points mentioned above, this makes me want to bash my brains out. (Why pay for self inflected torture.)”

Meh.

“5. MMORPGs make you socially inept. You can’t talk to people unless it is through a monitor, and you can’t hold a sensible conversation about anything but your MMO.

You can talk through a microphone or on a LAN. Easy. Just use Ventrilo/Teamspeak. However, I can agree that it does seclude you if you let it take over your spare time. ^^

Sounds like this guys has had issues with Game Playing if you are in this group I suggest you do not play Computer games.

As for his points

1. Most games are very few games I have ever played are not in some form.

2. There can be skill at the higher levels of the games in question, it is not simply a case of click click click but you have to use your head, granted 95% follow the crowd and use well known builds etc. these are not always the best which has been proved on many an occasion.

3. Yes Guild Wars you do have a choice so pretty much this point is redundant, personally I will never pay a subscription but I am tight.

4. Sorry but the press TAB and get instant cheats to max out your player is not the idea of these types of games.

5. This can be true but if you struggle with life like this then do not play them, pretty simple really.

im a pc gamer but i strongly disagree with fallout 3. as a devout fan, i was really excited to see it was finally getting made and had high hopes...then i learned about what bethesda was doing to one of my favorite series of all time. they turned it into oblivion with a fallout paint job. oblivion was a decent game (except for the main quest, which just sucked) but if they wanna make another oblivion, then do that. dont shit all over my favorite rpg since baldurs gate! based on what iv seen and read, they're taking out everything that made the games so amazing, ignoring all the lore, and seem to be dumbing down and styling the game around what they think would sell better. just hearing fallout 3 makes me sick because its a game that had such amazing potential, but is being ruined by bethesda
